Roundtable Discussion on Bangladesh’s Electoral System Held in Dhaka
Dhaka, July 24, 2025 — A roundtable discussion titled “Electoral System in Bangladesh: Analysis & Recommendations” was held on Thursday afternoon at the ATM Shamsul Haque Auditorium, CIRDAP, Dhaka. The event brought together academics, policy analysts, and governance experts to critically examine the country’s electoral framework and propose reform-oriented recommendations.
The session was chaired and moderated by Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rob, Executive Director of the Centre for Advanced Studies and Thoughts (CAST) and Vice Chancellor of Manarat International University (MIU). In his opening remarks, Professor Dr. Abdur Rob emphasized the importance of evidence-based dialogue in strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring credible electoral processes in Bangladesh.
The keynote address was delivered by Professor Dr. AKM Waresul Karim, Dean of the School of Business and Economics at North South University. In his presentation, Professor Dr. Karim analyzed structural and institutional challenges within the existing electoral system and highlighted the need for transparency, political accountability, and public trust to ensure free, fair, and participatory elections.
The discussion session focused on key issues such as electoral governance, the role of institutions, voter confidence, political inclusiveness, and practical reform measures. Participants underscored the urgency of constructive dialogue among stakeholders to safeguard democratic norms amid evolving political realities.
The event was organized by the Centre for Advanced Studies and Thoughts (CAST) as part of its ongoing initiatives to promote policy-oriented research and informed public discourse on national governance issues.
The roundtable concluded with a consensus on the need for continued academic and policy engagement to support meaningful electoral reforms in Bangladesh.
